ABOUT GIO BLACK PETER: Gio Black Peter ( Giovanni Andrade Paolo Guevara) is a New York-based performance artist as well as an ardent visual artist. He examines text and subject, truth and fakery, rebellion and authority. His subversive work has quickly earned him a name in the downtown New York scene of young emerging artists who participate in today’s dialogue about the deconstruction of high profile, white box presentation and the desire to raise art awareness. At the core of Black Peter’s thinking is the idea that the life of art depends on the viewer’s willingness to suspend his or her rational thoughts and play into the believability of lies and realistic falsehoods. Familiarity and a seductive aesthetic draw the viewer back to Black Peter’s art- a visceral exploration of vulnerability and self-reflection.

Since 2007, Gio Black Peter has performed and exhibited work worldwide, including: New York, Berlin, Madrid, Milan, Bergen, London, Antwerp, Tokyo, and Paris. He has also appeared as an actor in James Bolton’s film “Eban and Charley” (2001) and Bruce LaBruce’s film “Otto; or, Up with Dead People” (2008). He continues to grow and develop his range as an artist.

Ssion at Highline Ballroom

The Highline Ballroom

$12 adv, $15 at the door.
Doors 11:30pm, Show 12am

Referring to the old John Waters adage asserting that entertainment is inseparable from bad taste, few bands exercise that sentiment to the extent that does Ssion. Ssion (pronounced “shun”) is a 10-years-strong art-punk dance, design, and film collective from Kansas City, Missouri, headed by Cody Critcheloe. The group has gained notoriety not only for its gay-disco-meets-punk-rock musical stylings, but also for its outrageous stage shows and videos, which incorporate a harem of dancers and backup singers, comically cheap homemade props, supersized video projections, over-the-top costumes and makeup, and a visual sense of wonder recalling something between the twisted humor of Pee Wee’s Playhouse and Madonna’s Blond Ambition.

EveryBooty: N. 6th Pride (with Spank and Hey Queen)

Saturday, June 25
8:00 pm – 5:00 am
Public Assembly and Cubana Social
70 N. 6th Street
Brooklyn, NY
Tickets $10 advance / $15 door

Yeah, yeah.  All the cool kids go to San Francisco for Pride.  We know.  NYC Pride is so lame.  Blah, blah, blah.  Seeking to upend the ambivalence about New York Pride, PUSSY FAGGOT! has joined forces with Spank and Hey Queen for a blowout event on Saturday, June 25.  Taking over all 3 rooms of Public Assembly and the adjacent Cubana Social on N. 6th Street in Williamsburg, the party features Spank DJs Sean B and Will Automagic, visuals by Big Art Group, a special screening of video work by Ryan Trecartin and at midnight Earl Dax presents PUSSY FAGGOT! – Gay Shame Revival in the back room of Public Assembly.  Assimilate into the belly of queer downtown performance with confirmed performers including Laryssa Husiak, Kyle Kupres, Raul de Nieves and Colin Self, Gio Black Peter and Philadelphia’s drag pariah Needles Jones!  We’ll also be introducing Atlanta-based performer Little Foot Jones (no relation to Needles) and Toronto-based Regina (the drag alter ego of Reg Vermue from the band Gentleman Reg).  Tom Jackson (GAYLETTER) DJs after the performance block until close!

Bruce LaBruce Directed Gio Black Peter Video

Bruce LaBruce (Hustler White, The Raspberry Reich) has directed the latest video by PUSSY FAGGOT! favorite Gio Black Peter — who appeared in LaBruce’s Otto, Or Up With Dead People.  Outrageous and filled with mock-gore, the video gives new meaning to the term “sex pig.”  Enjoy!

[Note: Since we first posted this, the video was pulled from Vimeo.  We have uploaded it to our own PUSSY FAGGOT! server to ensure access.  For Gio Black Peter's response to the censorship, click here.]
